General Policies
Attendance
The overall makeup of each particular class will be affected if your child is absent. Please try to make each class. In the event that your child will miss class, please email us or call us in advance to let us know. We understand and support you in keeping your child home when they are too sick to attend.
Miss Susan offers a 2 semester year, in which each semester is 17 weeks long. The fall semester runs from August through December, with a fall break during the The spring semester runs from January through May, with a spring break that aligns with the Moore County Schools' break. Upon registration your child will be placed in the appropriate class for both semesters.
Illnes
Please do not send a sick child to class. Children should not be a t class with fever in excess of 101F (fever must be gone for 24 hours before returning to class), diarrhea, vomiting, open soars, unexplained rash, conjuctivitis, severe cold, excess fatigue or any contagious illness. Parents are required to notify SMA whenever a child has been exposed to or contracts a contagious disease such as measles, mumps, chicken pox, etc...or has been found to have head lice. In cas of serious illness/accident when parent cannot be reached, the director, teacher and/or any church assistant will seek medical treatment as stated on your child's application.
Miss Susan and SPUMC are not responsible for any expenses incurred under the above. It is imperative that we have accurate up to date data on each child throughout the year in order to act quickly and effectively in an emergency. It is the responsibility of each parent/guardian to have a child's file current and accurate. Please ask Program Director for a file when updates or changes need to be made. Please do not rely on verbal communication or notes when updating your child's file; parents need to get the file and make necessary changes directly on the file.
Inclement Weather Plan
We do not necessarily follow any particular school system closings, yet most often will adhere to the Moore County School Inclement Weather Postings. If conditions are unsafe:
- weather permitting, an announcement will be placed on our telephone line advising of cancellations and rescheduling: 910-295-4863.
- an announcement will be made of Star 102.5 FM
Due to the number of families in our Academy it is not feasible for us to call all of our students regarding inclement weather updates. Therefore, it will be each families responsibility to look into inclement weather updates. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Weather Related Makeup Days/3 Day Weekends
If classes are cancelled due to unsafe weather or because of a three day weekend, classes will be made up as follows:
- Classes canceled on Mondays will be made up on the immediate Tuesday
- Classes canceled on Tuesdays will be made up on the immediate Thursday
Regarding Tuition
Payments for classes are due at the first class meeting of the semester. Simply place your tuition in the large envelope on our bulletin board, which is located just inside the classroom. If for any reason, a family would like a refund, written notification of withdrawal must be received before the start of the second calendar month. No refunds will be available after the beginning of the semester's second calendar month. Please refer to withdrawal procedures below.
At the beginning of the Fall semester, the $40 non-refundable registration fee holds the child's slot for the specified Fall Class. The registration fee will cover both semesters. It is a fee that is separate from tuition. However, during the first week of November a $40 dollar deposit towards the Spring semester will be due. This money will be deducted from the Spring tuition. It is non-refundable once paid, if the child ends up not enrolling.
We usually offer special promotions to assist in tuition costs. You may wish to look into them.
We greatly appreciate the history of punctual payment from each family that has participated in the Academy in the past. We look forward to your continued excellence. You are all great. Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns
